Prices and booking
How much does storage cost in New Plymouth?
At Still Storage a half container is $140 a month and a full 20ft container is $220 a month. Both prices include GST. That works out at about $32 and $51 a week.
Do your prices include GST?
Yes. $140 a month for a half container and $220 a month for a full 20ft container are the totals you pay, GST included.
Is a container cheaper than a self storage unit?
Often, for the space you get. A full 20ft container at Still Storage gives you about 33 cubic metres for $220 a month, which is around $6.70 per cubic metre. Similar sized units advertised in New Plymouth ranged from roughly $200 to $280 a month in October 2026. Ask any storage company for their monthly price and cubic metres and you can compare like for like.

Sizes and what fits
How big is a 20ft storage container?
A standard 20ft container is about 5.9 metres long, 2.35 metres wide and 2.39 metres high on the inside. That is roughly 33 cubic metres of space and close to 14 square metres of floor.
What fits in a 20ft container?
The contents of a typical three bedroom house, including whiteware, beds, lounge and dining furniture and the garage. As boxes, it holds roughly 180 to 200 standard moving cartons.
What fits in a half container?
About 16 cubic metres, which suits a one or two bedroom flat, a garage clear out, or tools and stock for a small business. Each half has its own lockable door.
Should I get a half or a full container?
If you are storing a whole house of three bedrooms or more, go full. For a flat, a single room, sports gear or business stock, a half is usually plenty. If you are between the two, text Kyle a quick list and he will tell you straight.
The yard, your gear and everything else
Where is Still Storage?
78 Hurlstone Drive, Waiwhakaiho, New Plymouth. That is our one and only yard. We are just off Smart Road, between Fitzroy and Bell Block, near The Valley shopping centre.
Are the containers weatherproof?
Yes. Shipping containers are steel, sealed and built for ocean freight. Ours also sit under a full length roof with a concrete apron out front, so they stay cooler and drier and you can load without standing in mud.
Can I drive right up to my container?
Yes. Every container is at ground level with a concrete apron and a wide metalled yard in front, so you can back a car, trailer or moving truck up to the doors.
What can I store in a container?
Household furniture, whiteware, boxes, sports and camping gear, tools, building materials, business stock and archive files are all common. Do not store anything flammable, explosive, illegal, perishable or alive.
How do I stop damp in a storage container?
Store everything clean and fully dry, leave a small air gap around the walls, lift boxes and mattresses off the floor on pallets, and add a moisture absorber for long stays. The roof over our containers also cuts down the heat swings that cause condensation.
Should I insure what I store?
Yes. As with most storage in New Zealand, your goods are your responsibility while they are stored. Ring your contents insurer and ask them to note the storage address. Many policies cover goods in storage for a small extra cost or none at all.
Do you offer storage for businesses and trades?
Yes. Trades use containers for tools and materials, retailers for stock overflow, and offices for archive boxes and furniture. Ground level doors make it simple to load from a ute or van.
